Ray Thaxton Owen

HENDERSON- Ray Thaxton Owen, 82, of Moody Rd, died Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Seasons at Southpoint. Born June 19, 1940 in Person County, he was the son of the late Lillian Adcock Owen and Guy Owen. He was a retired tobacco buyer having worked for Universal Leaf Tobacco in Richmond and J.P. Taylor in Henderson. Ray graduated from Roxboro High School in 1960. He was a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church where he was very active in the United Methodist Men, sang in the choir, was a Sunday School teacher as well as Sunday School Superintendent. Ray was a judge with the Fox Field Trial Association where he traveled to different states to judge foxhound hunting dogs. He was also an avid fisherman and hunter and loved to garden and cook. A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Flat Rock United Methodist Church by Dr. Michael Hobbs. Ray is survived by his wife, Sandra Moody Owen of the home; two daughters, Elizabeth O. Jones (Robert) of Fayetteville and Rayna P. Owen of Rocky Mount; a granddaughter, Ashley J. Ingram (Tyler); and a great grandson, Brooks Ingram. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM in the fellowship hall of Flat Rock UMC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Flat Rock United Methodist Church (Youth and Children’s Ministry), 2560 Satterwhite Point Road, Henderson, NC 27537 or to Amedysis Hospice, 1005 Slater Road, Suite 105, Durham, NC 27703.
