November 18, 1958 — August 28, 2022

MIDDLEBURG- Rebecca Jo Atkins, 63, of Broad Street, died Sunday, August 28, 2022 at a local nursing home. Born November 18, 1958 in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Ruby Satterwhite Atkins and Jack Atkins. Rebecca formerly worked at Middleburg Steakhouse and was a member of Middleburg United Methodist Church. Rebecca was a one-of-a-kind mother and the best friend to her kids. To her friends, she was the friend of a lifetime. She would help anyone or anything, even to a fault. There wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for a friend or animal in need, but especially for her kids. She made everyone who knew her feel like they were special. Rebecca Jo burned bright and she will be so painfully missed. A memorial service will be held at Camp Kerr Lake Tuesday, September 13, 2022 at 12:00 PM by Dr. Ron Cava. Rebecca is survived by her daughter, Mallory Whitmore Flye and husband, Andrew, of Raleigh; her son, David Tyler Whitmore of Henderson; and two grandchildren, Harriette Briley Flye and Elizabeth Ira Flye; and her loving former husband and life partner, David Whitmore. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Camp Kerr Lake, 3111 Flemingtown Rd, Henderson, NC 27537.
