HENDERSON- Richard Henry "Buddy" Aldrich, 88, of 140 Kerr Lake Club Road, died Friday, July 19, 2019 at Hock Family Pavilion.Born May 22, 1931 in New York City, he was the son of the late Wilbur Aldrich and Anita Knoppert Aldrich.Buddy was a Veteran of the United States Navy and the owner of Southern Quilters/Carolina Comforters.He was a member of the CornerStone Lodge in Tuxedo Park, NY since 1958 and also a member of the Henderson Elks Lodge and Henderson Moose Lodge.Not only was he an avid Carolina fan, but Buddy created an endowment scholarship in 1985 at UNC Chapel Hill.His proudest personal accomplishment was being honored with the Duke Children’s Hospital "Volunteer of the Year" Award in 1990.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, August 18th at 2:00 PM in the Rose Chapel at First United Methodist Church Henderson by Rev. Bobby Fletcher.
He is survived by his wife, Esther E. Aldrich, of the home; two daughters, Claudia Aldrich Hays of Raleigh and Lisa Aldrich Jenkins of Sanford; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Bindoni of Monroe, NY; a niece; and a nephew.He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
