Born on October 13, 1946 in Vance County, he was the son of the late William Robert Southerland, Jr. and Olivia Breedlove Southerland.Richard attended East Carolina University and was a retired Vice President of Sales at ETC of Henderson.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 10 am at Sunset Gardens by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Edwards Southerland of the home; one son, Richard Gabriel Southerland and wife, Stacy of Greenville, NC; one daughter, Kelly Southerland Toups and husband, Jason of Wilmington; one brother, William B. Southerland and wife, Lisa of Wilmington; and two grandchildren, Richard Dillon Southerland and Ella Jane Toups.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Sunset Gardens.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to a charity of ones choice.
The family would like to give a special thanks to the Staff at Kerr Lake Nursing & Rehab Center for the loving and compassionate care given to Richard.
