Robert Van Bob Adams, Jr., age 72, a resident of 7909 Kingsland Drive, Raleigh and Townsville, NC, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at his home.Born in Vance County on April 7, 1938, he was the son of the late Robert Van Adams, Sr. and Jacobyna Swindell Adams.
Bob was a Veteran of the United States Air Force. He retired from NC Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company in 1999 after 35 years of service to the company.He began his career with Farm Bureau in October 1964 as a Field Adjuster in Union and surrounding counties. He worked through the ranks and was named Property Claims Manager in 1988, the position held when he retired.Bob was instrumental in creating the Companys Special Investigative Unit and Catastrophe Team.After his retirement, he took several consulting roles including working with NC Joint Underwriting Association and serving as an expert witness.Bob was very well respected by all who worked with him at Farm Bureau as well as the entire insurance industry.He will be remembered for his strong work ethic and sense of fairness.
He was a member of Nutbush Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11:00 am in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel in Henderson, NCby Rev. Dave Vallenga and Rev. Henry Lovelace.Burial will follow in the Nutbush Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Townsville with Military Honors.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Williamson Adams of the home; two sons, Robert Van Adams, III of Greenville, SC and Bradley Ryan Adams of Raleigh; one sister, Jacobyna Elizabeth Adams Beebe of Charlotte; and six grandchildren, Christopher L. Adams, Melissa L. Adams, Lauren N. Adams, Brandon G. Adams, Hannah C. Adams, and Allyson L. Adams.
He was preceded in death by one son, Leonard Wade Adams; and one brother, George Jackson Adams.
The family will receive friends Thursday night from 7:00 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at his home in Raleigh.
Serving as pall bearers will be Vernie Fountain, Don Fields, Mike Lucas, Roy Barnes, Frank Landing, Paul Barnes, Leon Turner, and Cliff Walker.
