Robert Greene was born on March 5, 1942 to the late Augustus Greene and Elma Frazier Greene.As a dairyman and tobacco farmer for over 40 years, Robert was known in the community as a faithful neighbor and friend.He always had a smile for everyone, even during his last days.Robert was a Veteran of the US Army and Army National Guard having served for six years.For four years he was on the Board of Directors for the Stovall Medical Center during its creation and opening.Roberts faith was always important to him, and he was active in church throughout his life.He was a member and served on the Board of Trustees of Gospel Independent Baptist Church until his death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM by Pastor Robert Greene, Jr. at Gospel Independent Baptist Church on Stagecoach Rd.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ada Reams Greene of the home; two daughters, Kimberly Greene Clayborne of Mebane and Sandra Greene Barker (Anthony) of Oxford; a son, Pastor Robert Edward Greene, Jr. (Barbara) of Oxford; nine grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and two sisters, Rebecca Greene Faucette of Henderson and Joyce Greene Rodman of Durham.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Crystal Diane Greene.
The family will receive friends prior to the service Saturday from 12:30 till 2:00 PM at the church.At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Brad Briggs, Doug Dickerson, Joseph Thomas, Cam Greene, Chase Greene and Tim Newton.Serving as honorary pall bearers will be Cody Greene and Jonathan Edwards.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Gospel Independent Baptist Church, C/O Robert Greene, Jr., 4020 Stagecoach Road, Oxford, NC 27565.
