Robert Alton "Al" Hanford,Sr.

HENDERSON- Robert Alton “Al” Hanford, 88, of Dabney Woods Drive, died Thursday, May 19, 2022 at Maria Parham Health. Born October 10, 1933, he was the son of the late Lucy Carliles Hanford and Matt Ransom Hanford and was the widower of Charlene Jensen Hanford. Al was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from Carolina Telephone. He was a former president of CWA Local 3682 Union and one of the founders of Vance County ARC. A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, May 23, 2022 at 11:00 AM in Sunset Gardens by Rev. George Williams. Al is survived by two sons, Robert Alton Hanford, Jr. (Darlene) of Henderson and Dennis Scott Hanford (Stephanie) of Oxford; two brothers, Marvin Hanford and Wayne Hanford of Raleigh; nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Nelson J. Hanford; and two brothers, Ray Hanford and Billy Hanford. The family will receive friends at his home on Dabney Woods Dr, Sunday afternoon from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Anyone wishing to view Mr. Hanford may do so on Sunday from 1:00 PM until 5:00 PM at J.M. White Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers will be Robin Hanford, Brandon Hanford, Timmy Hanford, Joey Hanford, Tyler Eatmon, Cassidy Stokes, Tara Journigan, Rilynne Abbott, and Connor Hanford. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made at to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105-9959.
