HENDERSON – Robert Irwin “Bobby” Burroughs, Jr., 85, of Glebe Road, died Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at Duke Hospital. Born July 25, 1940 in Vance County, he was the son to the late Robert Irwin Burroughs, Sr. and Ruby Pope Burroughs.
He was a member of Hermon Community Church and was formerly employed with F. & F. Farm Equipment Co. and Sanford Milling Co. Bobby was an active member of the National Wild Turkey Foundation and the Kerr Lake Mustang Club. Bobby was an expert mechanic, craftsman, and an avid hunter. He was a loving, kind, and caring man, who would assist anyone needing a helping hand and never met a stranger.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 26 at 3:00 PM at Hermon Community Church by the Rev. Johnny Yount. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Smiley Burroughs of the home; one daughter, Gina B. Woodlief (Dan) of Durham; one son, Justin P. Burroughs (Trish) of Henderson; and five grandchildren Claire Woodlief, Alex Burroughs, Dylan Woodlief, Miranda Burroughs, and Cheyanne Burroughs.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, infant baby Burroughs, Florence Pernell, and Kathleen Timberlake.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday from 2:00 until 3:00 PM in the Fellowship Hall at Hermon Community Church. At other times, the family will be at home.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Sam Jones, Ryan Smiley, Robbie Glover, Wayne Finch, and Jackson Pernell.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be John Henry Williamson, Henry Finch, and Robert Glover.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation, PO Box 414238, Boston, Massachusetts 02241-4238 or at Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.
