Robert Wayne Smiley

OXFORD- Robert Wayne Smiley, 74, of Barker Road, died Monday, March 11, 2024 at Maria Parham Health. Born February 7, 1950 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Katie Williamson Smiley and Thomas Smiley. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Vietnam Era and earning a National Defense Service Medal, a Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Service Star. Robert was retired from Saint Gobain Containers, was a member of Tabernacle Methodist Church of Townsville as well as a member of the Kerr Lake Ford Club. A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Tabernacle Methodist Church of Townsville by Rev. Tommy Privette. Robert is survived by his wife, Debra Twisdale Smiley of the home; his daughter, Brooke Smiley of Wilmington; two grandchildren, Rowan Smiley and Layla Bell; his mother-in-law, Bettye E. Twisdale of Townsville; three sisters, Shirley Burroughs and husband, Bobby of Henderson, Gloria Jean Jones and husband, Sam of Henderson, and Nancy Smiley of Evanston, IL; three sisters-in-law, Clarice “Reese” Smiley of Henderson, Nancy O’Geary and husband, Bubba of Henderson, and Karen Crews and husband, Sam of Oxford; brother -in-law, Lee Twisdale and wife, Kim of Townsville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Craig Alan Smiley; a brother, Thomas “Hop” Smiley; and a brother-in-law, Lee Stiles. The family will receive friends following the service on Saturday at Tabernacle Methodist Church and at other times at the home, 2255 Barker Road, Oxford, NC 27565.
