Robert Alexander "Bob" Stamper, age 70, a resident of Henderson, died Saturday, December 24, 2011.Born in Statesville, NC, on December 14, 1941, he was the son of the late Herbert Alexander Stamper and Ola Mae Bustle Stamper.Bob was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he served as co-chair of the Evangelism Committee and also as an usher.Bobs lifetime career was in the auto industry where he was part owner of the former Crowell Chevrolet in Henderson and was General Manager at Boyd Chevrolet for many years.He served in the North Carolina National Guard and was a former member of the Henderson Jaycees.He was very active in the Henderson Country Club where he enjoyed playing golf and socializing with his friends.The most important thing in Bobs life was spending time with his family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00 am at First United Methodist Church by the Rev. George D. Speake, who will be assisted by Matthew Perdue.Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca "Beckie" Perdue Stamper of the home, and one son, Robert Alexander "Alex" Stamper, Jr. and wife Amy and granddaughter Brooklyn Sophia of Charlotte.He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melissa Brooke Stamper.
The family will receive friends following the graveside service in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church. At other times they will be at the home.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Bill Brown, Dr. Bill Dennis, Melvin Dickerson, Frank Dickerson, Curt Meadows, Carlton Satterwhite, Dickie Whitten, and Mike Williams. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Nolton Boan, Bobby Clark, Larry Davis, Jim Johnson, Mike Satterwhite, Paul Schofield, and John Swecker.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gail Parkins Memorial Ovarian Cancer Walk, Team Melissa, 7413 Six Forks Road- 365, Raleigh, NC27615.
