HENDERSON- Mr. Robert Jim Thomas, age 87, a resident of 181 Townsville Landing Road, died Thursday September, 17, 2015 at Maria Parham Medical Center.Born in Yancey County on December 27, 1927 he was the son of the late Arnold Thomas and Pearl Woody Thomas.He was a Veteran of the United States Army having served in World War II.He was self employed and following retirement he enjoyed spending time at his home in the mountains and his home on the lake.
A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held Sunday at 1:00 PM at Nut Bush Presbyterian Church in Townsville by Rev. Dave Vellenga.
He is survived by his daughter, Debbie T. Cannady and husband Sam of Henderson; two sons, Arnold Hammitt Thomas and wife Margie and Charles Jason Thomas both of Townsville; two grandchildren, Arnold H. Thomas, Jr. and Amy M. Thomas; two sisters, Hattie T. Geouge and Grace Allen of Burnsville; and three brothers, Johnny Thomas of Burnsville, Samuel Thomas of Bakersville, and Joe Thomas of Franklinton; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Susie.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Williamson Thomas.
The family will receive friends after the service at Nut Bush Presbyterian Church.
