HENDERSONRoger Lambert Davis, age 74, a resident of 221 Sam Brummitt Road, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 25, 2014, at his home after a long courageous battle with cancer.Born on October 28, 1939 in Durham Co., he was the son of the late Paul and Beulah Davis.Roger was educated in the Orange Co. School System and attended the University Of North Carolina Chapel Hill and Louisburg College.He retired in 1990 after 31 years with the NC Highway PatrolDMV Enforcement Section as a Law Enforcement Officer.After retirement, he established a motor vehicle dealership in the Henderson area.He was a member of Island Creek Baptist Church and was a member of the Henderson Lodge # 229 AF & AM, York RiteBodies, Allied Masonic Degree, Granville County Shrine Club and Wake County Shrine Club, the Amaran Temple in Raleigh; and the US Marshall Service.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, May 28th, at 7 pm at Island Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Marshall Neathery.
He is survived by his wife, Scarlet Hamlet Davis of the home; one daughter, Karen Davis Newins and husband, John and grandson, Brandon all of Chesapeake, VA; one step-daughter, Danelle Piper; one step-granddaughter, Taylor Piper; and one sister, Lucille Barbee all of Hillsborough; one nephew, David Davis, and wife, Vickie and their children, Randi and Michael; and his loving dogs, Rudy and Roxy.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Wednesday from 6 to 7 pmin the Fellowship Hall at Island Creek Baptist Church.At other times they will be at the home, 221 Sam Brummitt Rd, Henderson, NC 27537.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Island Creek Baptist Church, 950 Stagecoach Road, Henderson, NC27537, or the Masonic Home for Children at Oxford, 600 College Street, Oxford, NC27565.
His memory will be cherished by his family and large, longstanding, loving group of friends.
His family would like to give special thanks and consideration to the Community Home Care and Hospice caregivers.And finally, special thanks and love to his amazing friends who spent so much time with him and all of his army of supporters.
