ROWLAND S. WORTHAM, SR.
HENDERSON-Rowland Stuart Wortham, Sr., age 87, a resident of 475 Satterwhite Point Road, died Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at Durham Regional Hospital.Born on September 29, 1922 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Claude Alexander Wortham and Annie Pleasant Wortham.He was a retired manager with F. W. Woolworth Co., and was a member of Flat Rock United Methodist Church where he was active in the church’s finances for many years, served on the Board of Trustees, and was a member of the Mary B. White Sunday School Class.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at Flat Rock United Methodist Church by the Rev. Pam Gilliam.Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Isabel Pace Wortham of the home; two sons, Jerry Wortham of Scottsdale, Arizona and Stuart Wortham of Daphne, Alabama; one sister, Sally W. Madgett of Cincinnati, Ohio; four grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 7:00 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home at 475 Satterwhite Point Road.
Serving as active pall bearers will be BillMurray, Doug Wortham, Ron Short, Stanley Floyd, Al Wortham, and Bobby King.
Serving as honorary pall bearers will be all member of the Mary B. White Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Flat Rock United Methodist Church, c/o Jenny Parrott, 1380 Horseshoe Bend Road, Henderson, N. C.27537.
