HENDERSON-Ruth Hazel Stanley Derby, age87 , a resident of Henderson, diedThursday January 12th at a local nursing home.
Born in Vance County on March 1, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Paul C. Stanley and Jackie Ross Stanley.
Mrs. Derby received her Registered Nurse Diploma from Norfolk General Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, and was a member of the Alumni of Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
She lived in Okalahoma for over forty years and was a member of Assumption Catholic Church and a member of the Assumption Altar Society and St. Judes Study Club.For many years she worked in the Duncan, Oklahoma Hospital where she was a member of the Oklahoma Coronary Care Nurses Association.In 1991 she moved back to Henderson and became a member of St. James Catholic Church and the Altar Society.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 2:00 pm at St. James Catholic Church by Father William Upah.A private burial will be held on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at Elmwood Cemetery.
She is survived by four sons, Paul Leslie Derby of Arlington, Virginia, John Stanley Derby of Franklinton, NC, Charles Allen Derby and wife, Tammy Jo of Norman, OK, and Joseph Michael Derby and wife, Karin of Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Derby Watters and husband, David, Caroline Sherill Derby Green and husband, Brandon, Brennan James Derby, and Michael Fields Derby; four great grandchildren, Jewel Ruth Watters, Jack Brennan Watters, Micha Andres Green, and Josiah Judah Green; one sister, Pauline Polly Fuller of Louisburg; two brothers, Charles E. Pete Stanley of Oxford, and Jack F. Stanley and wife, Edna of Louisburg; her brother-in-law, Perry Currin of Henderson; and a very special friend, Thomas Sheridan of Henderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Allen Derby; one son, Kim Brennan James Derby; one sister, Martha Jane Currin; her sister-in-law, Elizabeth Stanley, and her brother-in-law, Milton Fuller.
The family will receive friends Saturday, January 21, 2012 from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at St. James Catholic Church. This will be followed by a Funeral Mass and reception.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. James Catholic Church, 3275 US 158 Bypass, Henderson, NC27537.
