HENDERSON- Scottie Marie Ayscue Watkins, 95, of Durham, died Thursday, March 15, 2018 at her home.Born March 9, 1923, Scottie was the daughter of the late George Washington Ayscue and Winnie Allen Ayscue Rochester and lived in Henderson most of her life, graduating from Henderson High School in 1940 and from Campbell College in 1942.She was a member of First Baptist Church until moving her membership to First United Methodist Church (FUMC) upon her marriage to Harold U. Watkins in 1942.Scottie taught Sunday School in the Nursery Class and the Christine Jenkins and Whitmore Wesley classes at FUMC.She also served as secretary to the Administrative Board and as secretary to United Methodist Women.She was the school secretary at South Henderson and L. B. Yancey Elementary Schools before retiring.Scottie and Harold lived in Henderson until 2006 when their declining health caused them to move to Durham NC to live with daughter and son-in-law Rose and Gene Wolf. After moving to Durham, she attended Sunrise Church where she was much loved.
Family visitation will be Friday 23 March 2018 at 10:00 AM, at First United Methodist Church, 114 Church St, Henderson, NC 27536, followed with a memorial service at 11:00 AM.A Durham / Chapel Hill memorial service will be held at Sunrise Church, 1315 New Hope Trace, Chapel Hill, NC 27516, Saturday 24 March 2018 at 11:00 AM with family visitation following.
She is survived by five children, H. Scott Watkins and wife Judy; Dan A. Watkins and wife Sandra; Harold "Hal" U. Watkins Jr.; Rose W. Wolf and husband Gene; and Hartwell J. Watkins and wife Kristin; 14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
In addition to her parents, her sister, Sarah A. Hall, and her husband of 73 years, Harold Watkins,preceded her in death.
