Shirley Buchanan Edwards

Shirley Buchanan Edwards, 87, a resident of S. Cokesbury Road, died Monday, May 25, 2026 at her home. Born on November 2, 1938 in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Annie Gill Buchanan and Elmer William Buchanan and was the widow of James Clifton Edwards, Sr. She was a graduate of Aycock High School, Class of 1959 and a graduate of Henderson Business College. She formerly worked in the office at the former Softspun Knitting Mill and in the home office at Roses Stores, Inc. for 27 years.

She was a member of Cokesbury Methodist Church where she was a former treasurer for more than 20 years, a former member of the Cokesbury Methodist Church Choir, a member of the UMW, and the Cokesbury Ladies Sunday School Class. She was also a former secretary/treasurer for the Henderson Postal Retirees Group.

Shirley enjoyed making scratch cakes for a number of years, enjoyed crocheting and knitting and numerous other crafts. She also enjoyed laminating for family and friends for birthdays, wedding anniversaries, and obituaries, etc.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 3:00 P.M. by Rev. Michael Edmondson at Cokesbury Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

She is survived by two sons, Michael Rodgers Limer (Gina) and Barry Wade Limer (Diane); three daughters, Debbie E. Kinton (Wayne), Mary Ellen E. Florence (Tim), and Beth Edwards; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and a great-great grandchild.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Terry Wayne Limer and James Clifton Edwards, Jr.

The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 2:00 P.M. at Cokesbury Methodist Church; at other times they will be at the home of Michael and Gina Limer, 250 Tower Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
