Shirley Mays Griffin

Shirley Mays Griffin, age 78, a resident of 413 Parham Road, passed away on Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.Born on February 16, 1936 in Chatham Co., TN, she was the daughter of the late Robert James Mays and Naomi Appleton Mays.Mrs. Griffin was a homemaker.
Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2 pm in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Tim Burgess.Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
She is survived by her husband, Bennie Ray Griffin of the home; one daughter, Sheila G. Franklin and husband Sam of Henderson; three sons, David Griffin and wife Barbara of Henderson, Ray Griffin and partner, Allene of Greensboro, and Tim Griffin and friend Danielle of Wilmington; one sister, Jewel M. Mangrum of Fairview, TN; and five grandchildren, Sherry Grissom, Samuel Thomas Franklin, III, Kevin David Griffin, Brian Michael Griffin and Timothy Scott Griffin; three great grandchildren, Whitt Grissom, Clara Grissom, and Bailey Franklin.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Susan Diane Griffin and one grandson Eric Scott Griffin.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7 until 8:30 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home of Sam and Sheila Franklin at 3315 Vicksboro Road.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Timothy Scott Griffin, Kevin David Griffin, Brian Michael Griffin, Samuel Thomas Franklin, III, Trent Grissom, and Ludie Elton Creech.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Family Life Center, 1699 Weldons Mill Road, Henderson, NC27537 or the to the Vance County Animal Shelter, 165 Vance Academy Road, Henderson, NC27537.
