RALEIGH- Sigvard Bernhard Johnson, 84, died Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh. Sig, "The Swedish Handyman," born in Greenwich, CT on December 6, 1932, was the son of the late Axel Evert Johnson and Ebba Bjorkman Johnson. He was a Veteran, having served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1955 stationed in Paris, France. His professional career was shared between Norfolk Southern Railway and First Citizens Bank in Raleigh. Sigs Christian faith was very important to him, and he was a member at New Hope Baptist Church since 1964.He will be remembered as a loving father, friend and handyman.
A celebration of life service will be held at New Hope Baptist Church on Saturday, July 29, 2017 at 11:00 AM.
He is survived by two sons, Sigvard B. Johnson, Jr. and wife Debbie of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Stephen E. Johnson and wife Gretchen of Murfreesboro, TN; his daughter, Laura A. Richards and husband John of Greensboro; five grandchildren, Benjamin Richards, Daniel Richards, Megan Richards, Dana Johnson and Sigvard B. Johnson, III; brother, George Johnson; sister, Elsie Pankosky and close friend, Barbara J. Johnson and family.
He was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Annie Laurie Smith Johnson.
Family will receive friends and family at 10:00 AM at the church.
