HENDERSON-Steven Duane ”Steve” Appel, 67, a resident of Nautical Way Lane, died on Friday, March 21, 2025 at Transitions Life Care in Raleigh after a long courageous battle with Esophageal Cancer. Steve fought with great strength and courage and never gave up. Born on June 14, 1957 in Durham County, he was the son of the late Marvin Joseph Appel and Dolly Watts Appel. Steve attended Rock Spring Baptist Church and was retired from the North Carolina Public School System where he worked in the Transportation Department. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 25, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Rock Spring Baptist Church by the Rev. Gary Brummitt. He is survived by his wife, Wendy Percy Appel of the home; two sons, Adam Appel of Apex and Sean Appel (Sonia) of Holly Springs; four grandchildren, Addison Appel, Austin Appel,Ava Appel, and Zoe Appel; one sister, Debbie A. Parrish (Clarence) of Youngsville; three brothers, David Appel (Julia) of Youngsville, Mike Appel (Wanda) of Durham, and Gary Appel of Florida; his mother-in-law, Brenda Percy; his brother-in-law, Jeff Percy (Bree); his loving nieces and nephews; and his lake family . The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall at Rock Spring Baptist Church. Steve loved playing cornhole with his buddies, UNC Tarheels, and Carolina Hurricanes, and was a true craftsman. His projects and yard are reflected in his work.
