Wilmington- Straughan Henley Watkins “Spike” Dixon, 64, died on November 30, 2021 after a short but courageous battle against cancer. Spike was born on February 6, 1957 in Henderson, NC to the late Amie Watkins Dixon and William Dayton Dixon, Jr. Spike attended Woodberry Forest School and graduated from Vance Senior High School where he excelled in athletics. After attending East Carolina University, he embarked on a 30- year career with Universal Leaf Tobacco Company, where he achieved the level of Vice President and Plant Manager. Spike enjoyed his childhood summers on the Outer Banks with his siblings and cousins, as well as playing golf and poker with his many friends, but his proudest achievement and greatest source of pride was his beautiful family, whom he adored. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Sharon, trips to the family cabin in Wilkes County, afternoon family boat rides around Wrightsville Beach, or dips in his pool with his grandchildren. He was a thoughtful and loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, cousin and friend, and he will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at J.M. White Funeral Home in Henderson by Dr. Ronald S. Cava.
