Sue Hicks Mullinix, age 72, a resident of Henderson died Thursday, April 02, 2015, at her home ending a brave battle with Alzheimers Disease.Born on December 9, 1942 in Troy, NC, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd Wayne Hicks and Frances Cranford Hicks.Sue grew up in Troy and attended Wingate College.She worked with the Montgomery County and Vance County school systems before retiring as a full-time homemaker in 1986.She was also extremely active with the Lake Norman Hospital Volunteer Association for several years while living in that area. Sue loved flowers, reading, the beach, the mountains, her dog Sophie, her friends, and her church, but her greatest joy in life was her husband, children, and grandchildren.She had a servants heart and was an excellent caregiver to all she loved, especially Darrell.Being his wife was her greatest joy.In all matters, she put the Lord first, others second, and herself last.
Since moving back to Henderson in 2005, she has been a faithful member of Poplar Creek Baptist Church.
A celebration of life will be held Monday at 2 pm at Poplar Creek Baptist Church by the Rev. Tony Evans.
She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Darrell Clayton Mullinix, Sr. of the home, a daughter, Kelly Mullinix Stanley and husband, Bob of Henderson; a son, Darrell Clayton Butch Mullinix, Jr. and wife, Kim of Durham; three grandchildren, Joseph Clayton Everett, Lauren Elizabeth Mullinix and Hudson Cash Mullinix; sister-in-law, Susan Mullinix Tetter and husband, Bo; brother-in-law, Bennie Mullinix and wife, Debra, several nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and cousins.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Merrilou Hicks Allan; her brother, Lloyd Wayne Hicks, Jr.; and sisters-in-law, Martha Hicks and Sandra Mullinix; mother-in-law, Thelma Clayton Mullinix; and father-in-law, Marvin Benson Mullinix.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall of Poplar Creek Baptist Church.At other times they will be at the home.
