Therese Pedersen Sellars, age 75, died Thursday, May 12, 2011 in a local nursing home. Therese was born and reared in the small village of Gedesby on the South Island of Falster in Denmark and was the daughter of the late Peder M. Pedersen and Hedwig Christensen Pedersen. She was the widow of Dr. Gilbert F. Sellars.She was a child during the German occupation of WWII. After graduating from the Cathedral High School, she went to Fredericksborg Hospital Nursing School in Copenhagen where she graduated in 1957 as a Danish RN.
In 1956 she met Gilbert Sellars who was on leave from the army in Germany. A year later they were married in the 600-year-old Gedesby Church. After marriage in 1957 they lived in Boston while he attended Optometry School and she worked at a local hospital. They then lived in Salisbury, MD where their two daughters Susanne and Annette were born. In 1966 they moved to Henderson to acquire the practice of Dr. Wayne Boltz.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church for over forty years, helped as a nurse for the blood mobile, and was a long-time member of the Nosegay Garden Club.
A memorial service will be held in Denmark at a later date.
She is survived by two daughters, Susanne Birgitte Sellars-Hicks of Charlotte and Annette Kirsten Sellars of Henderson; her grandchildren Kirsten Hicks, Lena Hicks, and Eliza Hicks all of Charlotte; two brothers Jen Marquard Pedersen and Bent Marquard Pedersen both of Denmark.
The family will receive friends Saturday night from 7:00 until 8:30 at the home of Annette Sellars, 2119 Coleman Place.
