DURHAM-Thomas Harold Finch Jr., a resident of Durham, NC, entered the presence of his Lord on April 6, 2026. Tommy was born in Vance County on November 13, 1944. After graduating from Zeb Vance High School, Tommy married the love of his life, Priscilla, and they shared 63 years of beautiful marriage. Together, they built a life grounded in God, commitment, and love. Tommy enjoyed collecting antique memorabilia, westerns, trips to the beach and mountains but most of all, he cherished his family and serving them.
He worked for Colonial Stores/Big Star Foods for many years and later in the transportation department at UNC-Chapel Hill. Those who knew him remember his love for Duke sports, his strength of character, wonderful sense of humor and the simple but powerful ways he showed love and kindness to the people around him.
He is survived by his loving wife Priscilla Williford Finch; one son, Marty Finch (Peggy) of Cary; one daughter, Melissa Dement (John) of Holly Springs; six grandchildren, Megan Quintero (Jacob), Jarrett Finch, Katie Corkins (Colin), Andrew James, Amy Dement, and Scott Dement; five great grandchildren; four sisters, Nellie Grey “Gaye” Owen (Carl), Faye Granger, Barbara Inscoe (Mike), and Vanessa Denton (V.W.); and one brother, Tex Finch. He was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Coghill and his parents, Thomas Harold Finch Sr. and Virginia Wynne Finch.
The family would like to express their gratitude for the compassionate and loving care he received from the team at Senior Helpers of Holly Springs, Gentiva Hospice in Cary and the Rose Care Home in Cary.
Funeral services will be held Saturday April 11, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Kittrell by Rev. Dan Tilley. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jarrett Finch, John Dement, Andrew James, Kaden Whitfield-Dement, Simon Dement and V.W. Denton.
Tommy served and loved his church for many years, so in lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Guess Road Baptist Church, mailing address 1821 Hillandale Road, Suite 1B, Box 267, Durham, NC 27705.
