KITTRELL- Mr. Thomas Olin "Ranger" Wilkerson, age 81, a resident of 5700 Raleigh Road, died Thursday, October 19, 2017 at his home.Born in Vance County on December 15, 1935 he was the son of the late Hartwell S. Wilkerson and Rena George Wilkerson.Ranger was a well known and well respected lifelong member of the Henderson Community.He retired from the City of Henderson after 40 years of firefighting service, having been Henderson and Vance County Fire Chief for over 32 years.He also served the community as a city councilman for two terms and was a founding member of the Vance County Rescue Squad in 1954.Rangers professional association memberships included his lifetime membership in the North Carolina Association of Fire Chiefs, and his membership in the North Carolina Firemans Association, International Association of Fire Chiefs and Southeastern Association of Fire Chiefs.He was a former member and past Governor of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge in Henderson. He was a charter member and past president of Springdale Pool, Inc.Ranger enjoyed his afternoons with his buddies at the McDonalds "Office Club."He was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather and was loved by everyone that knew him.
Ranger was a member of South Henderson Church of God where memorial services will be held Sunday at 5:00 PM by Pastor Jonathon Fuson, Rev. Gary Harper and Rev. Frank Sossamon.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Harris Wilkerson of the home; four sons, Danny Wilkerson and wife Sandra, and Gray Wilkerson all of Henderson, Justin Wilkerson and wife Morgan of Raleigh and Jordan Wilkerson and wife Sarah of Greenville; a daughter, Karen Wilkerson of New Bern; three grandchildren, Beckham Wilkerson, Reece Wilkerson and Abby Wilkerson; and a brother, Bobby E. Wilkerson of Henderson.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jackie R. Wilkerson and a sister, Ferebee W. Preddy.
The family will receive friends following the service on Sunday in the Fellowship Hall of South Henderson Church of God.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the City of Henderson Fire Department, Vance County Fire Department, Vance County Rescue Squad and area volunteer firefighters.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to The Cancer Center, Maria Parham Health, 566 Ruin Creek Road, Henderson, NC 27536.
The family wishes to express special thanks to Dr. Mack and his staff at Maria Parham Oncology, Community Hospice, and Rangers caregivers at home, Wanda Donovan, Sandy Adams, Myrtle Lloyd and Christine Brake.
