Vallie Owen Stem

Vallie Owen Stem, 88, of Hicksboro Road, died Thursday, September 14, 2023 at Maria Parham Health. Born April 7, 1935 in Vance County, she was the daughter of the late Helen Roberson and James Bernard Owen. Mrs. Stem was a lifelong member of Harris Chapel United Methodist Church. She retired from Roses after working 42 years in the accounting department. Mrs. Stem had a green thumb and enjoyed working in her garden where she could make anything grow. She was an avid baker and was known for her sourdough bread, but her family especially loved her chicken salad, egg sandwiches, and chocolate pie. She loved her family deeply and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Harris Chapel United Methodist Church by Rev. Jenny Wilson and Rev. Dr. Glenn Stallsmith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Stem is survived by her husband of 68 years, Jesse Stem of the home; her daughter, Susan Holtzman (Charles) of Henderson; two grandsons, Justin Holtzman (Jamie) of Manson and Kyle Holtzman (Deborah Leigh) of Henderson; a granddaughter, Jill Perkinson (Brad) of Henderson; and nine great grandchildren, Mackenzie Holtzman, Natalie Holtzman, Piper Holtzman, Lena Holtzman, Kyleigh Holtzman, Carley Holtzman, Emory Perkinson, Anderson Perkinson and Owen Perkinson. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Mae Owen and Helen Faye Owen. Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Holtzman, Kyle Holtzman, Justin Holtzman, Brad Perkinson, Pete Lewis, Jesse Lewis, and Bennett Wise. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. at J.M. White Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 1155 Hicksboro Road, Henderson, NC 27537.
