Wayne Mabrey

HENDERSON- C. Wayne Mabrey, 67, of Vance County, passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023 at Universal Health Care Facility in Oxford. Born October 26, 1956 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Worth Henry “Red” Mabrey and Helen Collins Mabrey. Wayne was known for working with his parents at Mabrey’s Ceramic Tile, or at least, sitting on the bucket watching Bobby Johnson work. His entire life he loved horses and was a member of the CCWHA and NBHA. He was known for his riding skills and winning awards in Barrel Racing. He trained several horses for Mike Greene at Southern Rose Ranch in Pelzer, South Carolina. Wayne was a member of South Henderson Church of God with Pastor Gary Harper, where he loved being a door greeter always complementing and made everybody feel special. A memorial service will be held Monday, December 18, 2023 at 7:00 PM at South Henderson Church of God, 125 J.P. Taylor Road, Henderson, NC 27537. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 6:30 until 7:00 PM at the church. Surviving is one son, Lonnie C. Hale, of Henderson; his sister, Loretta Mabrey Wilson of Henderson, two nieces, Lauren Wilson, Kristen Wilson and great nephew, Hunter Wilson. He was preceded in death by one daughter Angela Erin Mabrey Special thanks to family and friends for their love and care during Wayne’s sickness.
