Wilbur O’Neal Slaughter, 74, a resident of N. Greg Allen Way, died Thursday, December 22, 2022 at Durham Regional Hospital. Born on December 16, 1948 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Alvis Slaughter and Ruth Hilliard Slaughter. Mr. Slaughter was a Veteran of the United States Navy and was a retired Welding Instructor at Vance Granville Community College. He was a member of Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church where funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 2:00 PM by Rev. Bruce Brooks. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Carol Pulley Slaughter of the home; three step-sons, Richard Gay (Cathy) and Jamie Gay (Tracey) all of Kittrell and Jerry Russell of Hillsboro; one daughter, Shirley Slaughter Ellison of Selma; one step-daughter, Gloria Yearby of Durham; two sisters, Dorothy Slaughter Blackwell (Harold) and Patricia Slaughter Cox (J. W.) of Oxford; one brother, Delbert Slaughter of Henderson; seven grandchildren, Caleb Ellison, Tristan Ellison, Keith Gay (Taylor), Clarissa Hurley (Dustin), Ashely Gay, Kevin Matthews and Ashley Matthews; and one great grandson, Grayson Gay; and Crystal Paynter, who he thought of as a daughter. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jean Deal Slaughter; one sister, Frances Katherine Slaughter and one brother, Norman Eugene Slaughter The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall of Peace’s Chapel Baptist Church. At other times they will be at the home. Serving as pallbearers will be Jody Cox, Jaron Cox, Kirk Slaughter, Keith Gay, Larry Cole, Kevin Paynter and Kenny Slaughter.
