HENDERSON-Wilfort Ferrell "Wimpy" Johnson, age 83, a resident of 330 Mason Street, died Monday, December 26, 2016, at Maria Parham Medical Center.Born on May 26, 1933 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Joseph Early Johnson and Betty Champion Johnson, and was the widower of Jessie May Lassiter Johnson.Wimpy was a retired shift supervisor at Certaineed Corp. He was a member of South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church, and the Mens Bible Class.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 pm at South Henderson Pentecostal Holiness Church by the Rev. Frank Sossamon.Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his daughter, FerrellDarlene Johnson Newton (Ralph) of Henderson; two sons, James Joseph Johnson (Heidi) of Henderson and Christopher Daniel Johnson (Sheila) of Oxford; one special child, Linda Lassiter Grissom (Jeffrey) of Henderson; daughter-in-law, Margaret Johnson of Henderson; 18 grandchildren;and 22 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, John Paul Johnson; two sisters, Doris Johnson Walsh and Dora Johnson Twisdale; and two brothers, Myrlon T. Johnson and Rev. Alton M. Johnson.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6 until 8 pm at J. M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home of Ralph and Ferrell Newton, 20 Hillandale Drive.
Serving as active pall bearers will be Christopher Johnson, Sr., Christopher Johnson, Jr., Jeffrey Grissom, Jacob Grissom, Dennis Newton, Bradley Johnson, Josh Edmonds, Bruce Harp, and William Currin.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Falcon Childrens Home, 7569 N. West Steet, Falcon, NC28342.
