CLARKSVILLE, VA- William John "Bill" Davies, Jr., 69, of Clarksville, VA, formerly of Henderson, died Saturday, January 5, 2019 at his daughter?s home in Clayton.Born on December 25, 1949 in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, he was the son of the late William John Davies, Sr. and Mildred Wallace Maddera Davies.Bill was a retired Sergeant Major and Vietnam veteran, serving for 26 years in the United States Army Band.He was stationed for many years at Fort Monroe in Virginia and overseas in Hawaii, Germany and Japan.A retired band director from the former Southern Vance High School, he inspired his students and lead them to numerous awards.Bill was an influential leader through music during each stage of his personal and professional life.He was an accomplished trumpet player with many notable musical performance experiences.In addition to his love of music and family, he was an avid traveler as well as a compassionate man who had a big heart for animals, including his two 18-year-old cats and his rescue dog, Sassy.
Bill was a member of Central Baptist Church where a memorial service with military honors will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 3:00 PM by Dr. Randy Mann.
Bill is survived by his wife, Bobbie J. Wyckoff Davies of the home; a son, William J. "Bill" Davies, III (Michael D. Johnson) of Kittrell; two daughters, Elizabeth A. Davies ofAlexandria, VA and Jennifer D. Gurley (Heath B. Gurley) of Clayton; two step-daughters, Jeanette M. Wrestler and Michelle M. Jenkins both of Chesapeake, VA; four granddaughters, Cara Gurley, Elayna Gurley, Julie Wrestler and Annabelle Wrestler; his brother, Michael A. Davies ofGreer, SC; and a niece, Lauren N. Davies.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elaine H. Davies.
The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of Central Baptist Church.
