HOLIDAY, FL.- William Edgar Pernell, 73, passed away Friday, July 30, 2021 in Clearwater, Florida with his wife and sons at his side. He was born in Vance County to the late Edgar and Dorothy "Dot" Harris Pernell. Bill graduated from Henderson High School in 1965. He attended W. W. Holding Technical Institute and received a degree in drafting. He later received two degrees from Vance-Granville Community College. He enlisted in the United State Air Force and served in Udorn, Thailand during the Vietnam War. He met his wife, Carol while stationed at W.P.A.F.B. in Dayton, Ohio. They were married in Dayton and had 49 wonderful years of marriage traveling all over the world. Bill and Carol lived in Henderson where he worked for Roses Stores. While in Henderson, he served as President of the Henderson Optimist Club and was President of Kerr Lake School. They are former members of First Baptist Church Henderson. They moved to Tarpon Springs, Florida where Bill was self-employed and retired from Hooters Restaurants Corporate Offices. He was active in Tarpon Springs Little League and Youth Football, served as coach and was active in East Lake School Athletics. They were members of Palm Harbor United Methodist Church, Palm Harbor, Florida. After retiring, they moved to Murphy, NC where they restored antiques and had a space in an Antique Mall. Bill built many beautiful pieces of furniture including caning antique chairs, rockers and benches. Bill is survived by his wife, Carol Favorite Pernell of Holiday, Florida; two sons, Brian W. Pernell and wife, Anna Beth Upchurch Pernell of Orlando Florida and William Barrett Pernell and wife Stacy Mills Pernell of Ft. Myers, Florida; three grandchildren; Finn William Pernell and Story Anne Pernell of Orlando, Florida and Austin Lapenna, son of Stacy Pernell of Ft. Myers, Florida who Bill watched grow up from a young teenager to a wonderful young man that Bill was proud to call a grandson. Also surviving is a sister, Catherine Pernell Micelotta and husband Vince, of Fountain Inn, SC and a brother, Robert Alan Pernell of Henderson and nieces Frances Micelotta Wilkerson and husband Brandon of Charlotte, NC, Kathryn Micelotta Spence and husband, Shannon of Fountain Inn, SC; two great nephews, Alex and Nick and a great niece Jane Spence. The family would like to extend our love and thanks to our friends Josephine and Gary Malaniak, Ron and Cyndie Langer, Angelo and Darlene Guarineri and Sally Swinson for their love and support throughout Bill’s journey. A memorial service with Military Honors will be held Friday, October 8 2021 at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist church in Henderson by the Rev Tony Evans. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Bill’s name to the DAV of St. Petersburg, 9500 Bay Pines Blvd, St. Petersburg FL 33708.
