HENDERSON-William Lewis Bill Fleming, Jr., died Saturday, April 20, 2013.Born in Vance County on August 21, 1936, he was the son of the late William L. Fleming and Elsie Aycock Fleming.Bill graduated from Duke University in 1958, and was a life member of The Iron Dukes.He was a former owner of Henderson Fruit & Produce. He served on the Vance County Board of Commissioners for twenty years, serving as Chairman in 1988, 1992, and 1997.Since his retirement he often co-hosted Town Talk and the Sport Talk on WIZS Radio.He was a member of Shocco United Methodist Church in Vicksboro.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Shocco United Methodist Church by the Rev. Eric Shubert and the Rev. Dr. Ronald S. Cava.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jane Link Fleming of the home; three daughters, Angel Lynne Fleming Biswas and husband, Robert of Miami, FL, Dawn Fleming McDonald and husband, Michael of Goldsboro, NC and April Fleming Starling and husband, David of New York, NY; four grandchildren, Harper Biswas, Lila Biswas, Will McDonald, and Eyler Starling.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall of Shocco United Methodist Church and at other times at the home on Beechwood Trail.
Serving as honorary pall bearers will be Wayne Adcock, Julius Banzet, III, Thomas Buchanan, Sr., Dr. Rodwell Drake, Lacy Fleming, Merle Fleming, Robert E. Fleming, Robert F. Fleming, Tommy Greenway, Johnnie Haithcock, Tom Hannon, John Link, Dr. Richard Noel, Dr. Beverly Tucker, and Charles White.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Vance County Relay For Life, P.O. Box 914, Henderson, NC.27536.
