KITTRELL- William Forrest “Bill” Smith, 72, of Walter Grissom Road, died Monday, March 27, 2023 at WakeMed Cary. Affectionately known as “Billy Buck,” he was born July 7, 1950, to the late Hilma Askew Smith and Sumner Forrest Smith. Bill was a Veteran of the United States Army. He retired from Cutler Re-Paving where he worked as a superintendent. Bill gained great joy from playing music and dancing. His self taught musical ability allowed him to play many instruments including the guitar, banjo, harmonica and piano. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 10:00 A.M. at Plank Chapel United Methodist Church by Rev. Dr. Carolyn Roy. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Tonita Baca “Toni” Smith of the home; his son, James Forrest Smith and wife, Rita, his daughter, Katrina Smith Stokes and husband, David, all of Henderson; two step-daughters, Connie Ocaña of Colorado and Judy Ocaña of New Mexico; a step-son, Robert Ocaña of Colorado; four grandchildren, James Eddie Smith, Lydia Dawn Smith, Kale Boone and Seth Boone; five step-grandchildren, Aaron Ocaña, Andy Ocaña, Ravin Basher, Tonita Lopez and Marcos Moya; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evie S. Odom of Apex, Marie S. Gilland of Nashville, TN, Larraine S. Abbott and husband, Jamie of Kittrell; a brother, Randall S. Smith of Concord; numerous loving in-laws and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a step-son, Alfredo Villalobos. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall of Plank Chapel United Methodist Church and at other times at the home.
