HENDERSON- William Stephen Billy Newton, age 84, a former resident of Bearpond Road, died Wednesday, September 8, 2010, at Brantwood Nursing Center in Oxford.Born in Vance County on March 4, 1926, he was the son of the late Harvey Newton and Ethel Fuller Newton. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2:00 pm, in the J.M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Frank Sossoman.Burial will follow in Sunset Gardens.
Mr. Newton is survived by his wife Katye Comer Newton of Haw River; one son, Ralph Newton of Henderson; two daughters, Betty N. Smith of Lexington, NC, and Rose N. Davis of Henderson; two sisters, Ruby Majors of Newport News, VA, and Mary Helen Lester of Henderson; nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ada Marie Minor Newton; a brother Henry Thomas Newton; and two sisters Douglas Makely and Ann Leigh Deake.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:30 until 2:00 pm, prior to the service at J.M. White Funeral Home.At other times they will be at the home of Ralph Newton at 20 Hillandale Drive, in West Hills Subdivision, off Hwy 158 Bypass.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dennis Newton, Keith Smith, Steve Smith, Joe Johnson, Chris Johnson, Billy Johnson and Charlie Forsythe.
Arrangements are by J.M. White Funeral Home.
