William Lee Ormond, age 80, a resident of 2550 Flemingtown Rd, died Monday, January 07, 2013 at Rose Manor Nursing Home in Durham. Born October 22, 1932 in Greene County, he was the son of the late Melvin William Ormond and Rubelle Aldridge Ormond.Mr. Ormond was a Veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War.He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and American Legion where he was in the Commanders Club. Mr. Ormond was the owner and operator of Ormond Toys and Novelties, a member of New Sandy Creek Baptist Church and the New Sandy Creek Baptist Men.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 3:00 PM at New Sandy Creek Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Tim Burgess and the Rev. Dr. Jeff Hensley.Burial with Military Honors will follow in Middleburg Cemetery.
Mr. Ormond is survived by his wife, Nancy Bobbitt Ormond of the home; two daughters, Heather Ormond Perry of Warrenton and Leigh Anne Ormond of the home; three sisters, Linda Ormond of Prince George, Virginia, Jeanette O. Jackson of Stanley, NC, and Christine O. Williams of Huntsville, TX;two grandchildren Donald Ray Perry, Jr. and friend, Suzanne Whitten and Allison Renee Perry and friend, Johnathan McLamb all of Selma; his mother-in-law, Joyce M. Bobbitt of Henderson; two sisters-in-law, Mollie B. Scerbo and husband, Bernard F. Scerbo and Joyce B. Carpunky; a brother-in-law, Malcolm J. Bobbitt, Jr. and wife Betty O. Bobbitt; and a number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie O. Aswell; and two brothers, Melvin Parrott Ormond and Earl Dawson Ormond.
Serving as active pallbearers will be Joseph Doyle Carpunky, James Littleton Carpunky, Malcolm Justis Bobbitt, III, Matthew Jordan Bobbitt, William Cameron Gill, Christopher Guille Humphries, and Henry Dallas Bobbitt, IV.Serving as honorary pall bearers will be members of the New Sandy Creek Baptist Men.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00PM until 8:30 PM at J.M. White Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to New Sandy Creek Baptist Church Building Fund, 1699 Weldons Mill Road, Henderson, NC 27537
