HENDERSON-William Graham "Bill" Wortham, Sr., age 87, a resident of Beaver Dam Road, died peacefully on February 10, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at Kerr Lake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness. Born on October 6, 1930 and raised in Henderson, he was the son of the late Clarence Samuel Wortham and Annie Mae Nash Wortham.
Bill was a Veteran of the United States Army serving as a Corporal during the Korean War.He retired from Americal where he worked for more than 25 years,
and was a faithful servant of God, serving as a deacon in his church.A kind and happy man, he loved golf, Carolina basketball, and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service with Military Honors will be held Wednesday at 2 pm in the J. M. White Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Sam Brewer. A private Entombment for the immediate family will be held at Sunset Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, Bessie Beal Wortham of the home; three daughters, Debbie Mattocks of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Patricia Hintz of Sunnyvale, California and Barbara Caton of Franklinton; one son Billy Wortham (Nancy) of Henderson; two stepsons Keith Brown (Vicki) of Memphis, Tennessee, and Charlie Brown (Teresa) of Henderson; one sister, Mollie W. Roberson of Henderson; one brother, Marvin T. Bud Wortham (Carolyn) of Henderson; and brother-in-law, Robert A. Dayoan of Oxford.He is also survived by and blessed to have 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Franklin Wortham; two sisters; Betty W. Dayoan and Jane W. Twisdale; and one brother, Samuel Carson Wortham.
Serving as honorary pall bearers will be his grandsons, Chris Lynch, Gray Click, Ben Fields, Thomas Brown, Tommy Overcash, Jeremy Overcash, and Nick Overcash.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 12:30 until 2 pm at J.M. White Funeral Home, 60 Zeb Robinson Road, Henderson, NC, 27536 . At other times the family will be at the home of Billy and Nancy Wortham, 242 Country Lake Road in Henderson.
