Wilton Lee Short, Sr.

HENDERSON- Wilton Lee Short, Sr., 86, of Cheatham Mabry Road, died Tuesday, June 3, 2025. Born May 30, 1939 in Vance County, he was the son of the late Frances Rebecca Watson Short and William Thurston Short. Wilton was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His right arm was his loving, dedicated, and faithful wife of 64 years, Felcie, with whom they enjoyed sharing life together. He was a member of Carey Baptist Church where he formerly served as a deacon and was a member of the choir. Wilton was a successful farmer, and was recognized as Young Farmer of the Year early in his farming career. His farming legacy continues through his son and grandsons. Wilton also worked at High Price Warehouse. The things he enjoyed most were his family, especially supporting his grandsons’ activities. You could find him at a recital, a gym, or a field, wherever his grandsons were participating. He also enjoyed spending time with his church family and keeping jokes going in the choir loft. He looked forward to monthly steak dinners with local farmers and attending NC State Wolfpack games. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 6, 2025 at 2:00 P.M., at Carey Baptist Church by Dr. Al James and Rev. Michael Mahan. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Wilton is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Felcie Ellington Short of the home; his daughter, Jennifer Short Whaley (Deck) of Cary; his son, Wilton Lee Short, Jr. (Wendy) of Henderson; his four grandsons, Travis Deck Whaley (Payton), Justin Lee Whaley, Wilton Lee Short, III (Nicole), and Robert Hampton Short (Alaina); his twin brother, William Thomas Short (Nancy) of Laurinburg; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Frances Short Seaman and Jane Short Curtis and a nephew, Gregory Davis Short. Serving as pallbearers will be Travis Whaley, Justin Whaley, Wil Short, Hampton Short, Payton Whaley, Dennis Abbott, Craig Falkner, Dan Falkner, Milton Hilliard, Frankie Nobles, Rann Paynter, Keith Pendergrass, Doug Puckett, and Larry Leon Short. The family will receive friends following the service on Friday in the fellowship hall of Carey Chapel Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carey Baptist Church, P.O. Box 637, Henderson, NC 27536.
